This article will be about my personal experience in a youth exchange project “Sport is all around us”.
The main purpose of this project was to encourage youth to participate in different sport activities, also to exchange experience in the field of sports between people from different countries. Participants from Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Italy talked about different kind of physical activities that are popular in their countries. It was very interesting to see the different perspectives from different people. Each country had to prepare activities that would embrace teamwork and friendship between the participants.
As I was chosen as the leader for the Lithuanian team, so I had to encourage my team to think of different games and energizers. After some consideration, we decided to present a popular game among children in Lithuania – “the fishnet and the fish”. The main objective of this game was to form a line of people, and to catch more people. The line was as the net and all other people was as fishes. It was very fun, and gave the energy going in our systems.
After a little break, we made 2 teams of people for the next games. Team No. 1 played “One touch”, it was like football with changed rules. The main rule is that you can only touch the ball once, so the game was all about teamwork and passing the ball strategically. Meanwhile team No. 2 played “hot potato”. The game is similar to volleyball, yet more fun.
One of the most fun games that were played was “Limbo”. I think everybody knows the rules, so I will just continue. Bulgarians won the game, those people have some magic in them, I tell ya… (They bend like snakes).
Other countries also prepared different games, like football, volleyball…
The last day was sad, but also really fun, the evaluation part especially. Everybody had to write comments on what they liked, didn’t like, what they missed, and what problems did they have. I think that was a great idea, and people really enjoyed leaving comments. (About potatoes, cough cough…)
For me one of the most memorable moments was the final workshop/game, its main objective was to get a piece of paper on your back, and everybody would exchange comments to each other anonymously. It was very nice seeing how everybody was being friendly, and there were no mean comments.
All in all, I’m glad that I was chosen to participate in this youth exchange, and I’m looking forward to other projects in the future, and of course I hope to meet people from the project again, even though it was only one week, everybody became great friends.
So, I guess that it would be all for this article, I hope you enjoyed reading it , Cheers!
