Youth project “Sport is all around us” was held in Poland, in a small, beautiful town called Tenczyn. What made this town a good location for the event is that it’s only 50 km away from Krakow. Project included young people from different parts of the world, different cultures, thinking, view of the world and aims all together. Most important aim for organizers was to show how important is to be active and sportive, also that activities related to sport is really important to youngsters and their health.
Everyday we had plenty activities linked with sport. During the time, we played lots of games such as football, volleyball, trust games and etc. In one particular occasion, we, participants, had two days in which we had to prepare sport activities of our own. Few Lithuanian girls prepared funny football game called “Tumbi Jumbi”. In this game, there are two groups of people, one team puts glasses on their eyes (glasses are made from plastic cups) and the other team are stuck in two man groups (one person gets their leg wrapped to the other persons leg, so it makes three legs). We also had workshops, in which we were talking about sport and why it’s important for everyone. We also had intercultural evenings, where groups from different countries such as Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Poland introduced their countries, culture, national dances, songs and meals.
Through the project we had two excursions. One was in Krakow, where we split in four different groups. Each one had to prepare a few tasks for the other group. We had two hours to prepare and 40 minutes to do the tasks that we got from the other group. After this we had some free time to do whatever we want. Other excursion was to Tatra Mountains. We walked a long way by foot and after that we climbed a mountain to see Morskie Oko (“Eye of the Sea”), one of the most beautiful places in the world. This trip took all day, so after it we were so exhausted, that all we wanted is a shower and good night sleep.
On the last day we make a circle and shared our feelings about the project. What we liked or disliked, what we learnt, how we felt. One girl said that of all projects she was in, this one was the warmest because all participants were working as a team and everyone supported or helped each other. After our sincerity moment, we got given a peace of paper that hanged on our backs. The purpose was to go behind and write something for the individual.
For me, this was the first project I’ve been to and the feelings that I got from it are so unspeakably strong! All participants were happy, communicative, funny, warm, and helpful. It was really hard to leave all the people behind. I felt like I was in the family, everyone was sincere, shared their feelings and experience with others. The atmosphere was fantastic!
Thank you, Inovaciju biuras (Innovation Office), for giving me this wonderful opportunity to meet many interesting people, learn many new things, see beautiful places and, of course, to improve my English skills.
