Youth unemployment is one of the most important issues in all over Europe. According to statistics department, youth unemployment rates in Lithuania are: 2011 year – 32.6, 2012 year – 26.7, 2013 year – 21.9 and in Latvia accordingly 2011 year – 31.0, 2012 year – 28,5, 2013 year – 23.2. Although numbers are decreasing, anyway they are still high and require actions.
Knowledge Code together with Education Innovation Transfer Centre have implemented the project “Inter-organizational learning: Employability and Social Inclusion through Non-formal Education of young people” with aim to create new opportunities for youth employability and social inclusion in Lithuania and Latvia through youth workers exchange and inter-organizational learning. While participating in the project, Linda Butane (from Jelgava, Latvia) and Rasa Žilionė (from Vilnius, Lithuania) worked with youth, organize workshops and courses for young people, therefore they had opportunities to improve cultural, foreign language, social, learn to learn competences.

Rasa Žilionė prepared strategic plan for strengthening practical skills and capacities for organising non-formal education for Jelgava youth and it helps Education Innovation Transfer Centre to have a direction forward to better youth’s social inclusion and integration into labour market.

During the project period, new initiative was started in Lithuanian. Preliminary research showed that the main obstacle for employability is lack of information. In order to strengthen youth abilities to integrate better into labour market, all information should be in one place, therefore career portal www.karjera.eu was established.

Besides this, together with partners, application titled “Volunteering as a tool to promote youth employment and social inclusion” was submitted within the framework of Erasmus+ programme. It could be good chance to continue the job further.
Moreover, the course “How to find a job?” (free of charge) were adapted to 3 different languages:
- Kaip rasti darbą? (Lithuanian version)
- How to find a job in Europe? (English version)
- Padomi, kā meklēt darbu (Latvian version)
It might be stated the project was implemented successful as two organizations (both Lithuanian and Latvian) were encouraged to be more open and more active in field of work with youth. Moreover, these activities make a start for further activities to integrate young people into labour market.
