On February 8 -15 group of people from Lithuania, Turkey, Italy, Estonia, Bulgaria and Romania went to quiet mid-size Aksaray city, which is situated in the middle of Turkey, for Erasmus+ training course “Eat to live not live to eat”. About what this project was? The aim of the project was to create awareness among young people on healthy diet and doing sports. We took more attention to one common problem – obesity.
The trip from Vilnius to Aksaray took almost all day; we left early in the morning and arrived quite late, about 3 a.m. The next day was quite active, we started with breakfast and presentations of our organisations, the problem of obesity and finished with cultural night. The night of culture brought us a various experience like the way to feel unusual tastes of food, to see some traditional clothes and dances from abroad, and also to meet people with different attitude and ideas. The project brought a great opportunity to know more and about participants from Turkey, Italy, Estonia, Bulgaria and Romania about their eating habits, activity in sport, addictions prevalence in their country and also some details about the way how people live in their countries in general.
What did we do? At project we tried to feel and deepen knowledge about the problem of obesity by having various workshops in groups about how to prevent health risk factors, playing roles about obesity to convey obesity risks in real life. Also we had a brainstorming and real opportunity to generate and create Erasmus+ project. It brought some essential ideas like what way you are living, such results you have – you responsible for your lifestyle, what you eat, your daily decisions and habits (you choose a healthy diet or not) determine how you feel now.
Impressions of some participants: “Long and complicated almost day-long journey to Turkey brought some memorable and exciting experiences! Most Stuck moments are in tour Cappadocia – underground city and the unique natural rocks and mountains, different culture and what will not see your own land as certain foods like baklava, Turkish coffee, mosques, many unique buildings, women with headwear, roads, where are not working traffic lights – the feeling that you are somewhere else, not in Europe, really different culture.”; “Coordinators of the project were very generous and friendly. I was excited to get to know their views on healthy living, their perspective on diet and etc. It was also very useful to understand different ways of diet in other countries. I really enjoyed after class activities when we were taken to the city and Cappadocia. The views were stunning.”
