Trakai: a beautiful place of Lithuania

Trakai is a beautiful city near the capital of Lithuania, only to 28 km to Vilnius. It’s a typical tourist destination.

In Trakai, you can find different places to enjoy. The first and the most important place in the city is Trakai Castle. This castle is in the middle of the island, it is in a beautiful place. Lake Galvė and beautiful woods are around the castle. It was built in the fourteenth century, Grand Duke Kęstutis  started and Vytautas his son, finished to make it. It’s important to say that Vytautas also known as the Vytautas the Great, he was who finished with the Knights Teutons and their attacks.

This castle was attacked and destroyed several times and, when the Second World War finished, was started a new reconstruction again.

I won’t explain more about the history to you because I recommend that you’ll go and visit it.

When you are there, you have a museum inside, where you’ll find panels explaining its history, you can walk inside and around the castle. You will see the typical medieval castle and different objects of distinct epochs. Also, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful places around the castle where you can rest and disconnect.

You will find different souvenir stores where they have many things. The typical souvenir that people buy is things made with amber, also you will find different things and very original in all stores.For eating you have many restaurants where you’ll find one typical dish of this region “Kibinai” (originative for the Karaite). This dish is fantastic, I recommend it to you. This is made with something similar to puff pastry and you have the possibility to choose what you want inside of this: meat, vegetables, meat with cheese and different else.

And it’s a good plan if you will go on summer, you have the possibility to take a boat and see around the castle and woods while you are crossing the Lake Galvė.

The interesting thing is the houses built by the Karaite near the castle. You can see that these houses have three windows on the first floor and all the houses have facades painted in one different color and the gardens are very green and have a lot of flowers. It is very beautiful when you can see the same in all the street. Looks like a painting!
