2019, January 13-21 we participated in the Erasmus+ project “City – make it smart”.

Personally I was expecting the project to consist of lectures, or something of the sort about the idea of a smart city and workshops directly influencing the city’s infrastructure, but instead I got fewer than anticipated talks about the smart city idea and a lot more socialization than I am personally comfortable with, granted the former did make the project a lot more enjoyable and the discussions about smart cities were not lost.
Quite a few ideas from the project are fairly noteworthy, such as the very extensive list of usage for drones, the possible improvements to public transport and my personal favorite: informational applications for cities. I found this part of the project very interesting and I got a lot more invested in the idea of a smart city. The presentation in Sosnowiec and Katowice (and Auschwitz) were really informative about what people are doing to make their city smarter, more efficient in every single aspect: from time to resources. Some presentations were flawed, however everything was still great.
The majority of the project was about everyone participating and their native cultures and innovative achievements in their home cities. After the project I feel a fair bit more culturally aware. After a few chats with people from backgrounds decently different from mine, especially the Portuguese, I got to know our differences and similarities and everything was a lot of fun.
